LAN-40G2SF-MLX and Arista DCS-7050T

Post by kirin »

I've ordered an TES-3085U with a LAN-40G2SF-MLX.
When it arrives, I'd like to connect it to the QSFP+ 40gb port on my Arista DCS-7050T-64-F.
What are the approved/recommended transceivers or cables? They will be racked next to each other so I assume a passive direct attach would be simplest/easiest?
Would the following work?
https://www.fs.com/products/36222.html

Thanks in advance.

Don't think there is much support for those units on this forum ... best to ask QNAP via ticket

Just in case anyone is in the same situation as me:
Yes, the linked cable from FibreStore worked.
When I purchased it, I specified that it would be used to connect a Mellanox MCX314A-BCCT ConnectX-3 Pro EN (the real name for the LAN-40G2FS-MLX) to the switch. They created a custom cable that was Mellanox coded at one end and Arista on the other (but according to my research the QNAP/Mellanox end should have worked with an "Arista" coded end anyway).
One final hump was configuring the switch - you need for "force" 40g on the 4 sub ports that constitute the QSFP+ port. Instructions here:

thanks for this information. Boy, I know that I am ignorant of Arista switches, but it seems that in 2018, to have to type in
(config)#int et 52/1
(config-if-Et52/1-4)#speed forced 40gfull
to get this expensive switch to run at 40G - well, what do I know. The Mellanox switch is cheaper and easier to use. I am surprised that you opted for the Arista Networks switch.

May I ask what your application is for the TES-3085U ?

Yeah sure!
Sorry for the super slow response (I don't have notifications set in this forum).
We are using it for a "disposable" cluster of cheap fast hardware (about 20 gaming motherboards in Chenbro rackmount cases running oVirt).
We compile custom versions of linux for embedded hardware and other software related dev work.
Source code and "important stuff" goes on our EMC backed VMware cluster (slow, but lots of redundancy, SLAs etc.).

Yes, well... that's just the sort of comment that raises red-flags. Another bot posting generic "help".
