TVS-951x Memory Upgrade

Post by vipulgarg »

Hello Gurus,

I am new to this forum. I recently bought a new TVS-951x NAS with 2 GB memory. If I want to upgrade RAM on this NAS, what are my options? Do I have to buy QNAP brand memory or buying other brands will be okay too? Any specification for the RAM.

I am sure this question was asked here before but I couldn't find the relevant information. My apologies and thank you for your help.

Thanks,
Vipul

best option would be a forum search (found a couple of hits)

In the earlier topic (viewtopic.php?f=182&t=145514&p=697485), there were some issues with RAM used where it was not detecting the full memory and only detecting the memory from 1 slot or half the total RAM size.

Any idea what would have caused that? I am planning to upgrade my NAS to 32GB (2*16GB) memory. If I am not wrong, 32 (2*16GB) memory is the max this NAS can support. Please help so I can upgrade.

i have both ranks filled..even with different sizes..so that shouldn't be an issue

I just didn't see a need for 32GB of ram ... unit performance and my usage case do not justify it

Thank you. So, any DDR4-2400 will be compatible with this NAS, or any other specification like CL-16 or CL-17? Thank you for your help.

No.

The problem is that only the expensive Qnap RAM is supported by Qnap. This means:
  1. Qnap may not offer support on a RAM expanded NAS, so keep the original RAM to be able to restore it to a supported configuration later when you need support from Qnap.
  2. Qnap does not list RAM specifications or have a comaptible RAM list so users are on their own finding out what works and what doesn't. Usually hints about RAM expansion can be found here in the forum but there are no guarantees.
RAID have never ever been a replacement for backups. Without backups on a different system (preferably placed at another site), you will eventually lose data!

A non-RAID configuration (including RAID 0, which isn't really RAID) with a backup on a separate media protects your data far better than any RAID-volume without backup.

All data storage consists of both the primary storage and the backups. It's your money and your data, spend the storage budget wisely or pay with your data!

Cheers! You found my previous thread!

My 2x16gb Corsair Vengeance 2400Hz would not recognize installed into neither my 951x, nor my DS1819+. The ram I was successful with was G.Skill RipJaws 2400 19200:

Best of luck. Absolutely keep the original ram for any RMA warranty issues, as earlier stated.
Is there a fix for the DEADBOLT Hack???

Can anyone tell me if both slots must be used? Can I install one 8GB or 16GB module and not use the other slot for now?

if itsmarcos says it work (and according to the sig that is one of the NAS units he owns) .. it's kind of a given that they work
