Is it possible to upgrade the stock CPU to an i5 or i7 one for this model?

maybe, maybe not. i5-8400T is more possible since the 8-bay has it. The beast i7-8700K (6-cores/12-threads) on the other hand, unknown until someone tries it.

Just ordered the 472xt. Will try it with the i5-8600T.... if this cpu will ever be delivered... (stock = 0)
Seems there's no 8x00T in stock in whole Europe ! WTF Intel !

Just be aware upgrading the CPU may void your QNAP warranty.

Yes i know, but you can put the old one always back..... it's a socket.
And even so this shouldn't void your waranty it's like replacing your Ram ...
Never had issues with my ts-670 which runs the i7-3770s ...

Hi did you receive the 472xt? Just wondered if it had a removable CPU as I’d look to fit an i7-8700t. If it’s got a 120mm fan it may handle a liquid cooler as well.

I’ve had tvs-682, 882 and 1282 models and they are amazing at replacing bits like cpu and adding liquid cooling etc. I’ve even had graphics cards in them. Great toys!

Let me know about the 472xt thanks

MMm i7-8700T would be nice, but pay attention it has only 35 watt tdp when configured like this in Bios and also who knows if it's supported ....
In full turbo mode i can go as high as 110 Watts... so definitely you need to have some other cooling solutions here...
So my first impressions for now....
  • 4GB mem is not enough, will change it to 16Gb
  • Cpu pentium Gold, ok for regular tasks, but not powerfull enough for VM)
  • Cpu coolers make more noise than my old Ts-670 (Noctua fans)
  • No Sleepmode available for NAS ...

According to me is the 8700T 35 w TDP.
https://ark.intel.com/products/129948/I ... -4-00-GHz-

So the bios says: 35 watt? Is that fixed?

Interesting thread.

Yes, you can configure it to 35 watt in bios (if supported) but cpu will only run on base freq. not turbo freq.
You can read it here in German, but you can translate....
https://www.computerbase.de/2018-06/int ... ffee-lake/

i7-8700T runs on X72xt, only problem Intel isn't able to deliver T versions.
Got reply from my wholesales saying at least one month before some stock will be available...

I thought I had posted something here.

But agan: I am aware that there are zero/few 8000t series CPU.
And I know about a regular bios, but I reacted more on, that I had never seen/do not know what is possible in the Qnap Bios. ;-)

Thanks for the update. I am eying on the x72 series as well.

I'm also very interested in this NAS and the possibility to swap the CPU, so I'm here to follow you guys progress on this.
After extensive research I abandoned the idea of getting a cheap NAS and I was about to buy a TVS-682-i3 with the idea of increasing Ram and swapping the CPU, do you guys think I should go for the TVS-472 one instead?

Which processor do you plan on installing on it though? Those new 8th gen chips aren't cheap

Both I5-8600T & I7-8700T are ordered, .... waiting on Intel's bakery to produce some ....

Don't know yet, I might use the Pentium Gold for 1 year waiting for the warranty to expire and the replacement CPUs to go down in price

I'm VERY interested in the results, please share them here when you get the processors.

I have an older model that I need to replace, a small 251+ which has soldered CPU on the mobo, did you personally check that the TVS-472XT CPU is actually removable?
