is this true about 8GB maximum RAM?

Post by ssybesma »

I've seen several YouTube videos where people have installed 16GB of RAM onto some of the models which supposedly have 8GB RAM limitations. Model in question is my TS-451+ which supposedly is limited to 8GB of RAM.

They showed screens where the System Status section of the control panel shows total memory at 16GB (the Hardware Information tab even shows the brand and size of each 8GB memory stick).

My question is not whether the QNAP can recognize the memory (I've seen enough evidence that it can), but whether it can actually make use of it.

The discussion in the YoutTube videos indicates people have run VMs which together take up more than 8GB of RAM (assuming the NAS takes up 1-2GB by itself).

I'd believe that when I see it though because nobody provided any video proof of that, just video proof that the QNAP sees the memory.

I think I would try this if someone can prove the RAM can be utilized.
