External Raid of USB drive

I would like to know if I can raid and external multi drive enclosure using QNAP software.

uh afaik

only qnap expansion boxes can be setup using raid via QTS.

something like a QNAP TR-004 has it's own inbuilt raid controller. Which you can then set it up using either their windows QNAP app, or via the QTS.

If you meant you want to plug in that usb device, then expect the QNAP able to setup raid on it, i doubt that will work :/

maybe someone who is more familiar with this can chime in.

Or you can try ask helpdesk directly yourself.

I believe that the TR series usb external storage (with raid) has some limitations. I don't think it's possible to merge it into an existing pool in your QNAP NAS. instead it creates it's own separate volume. check the forum and youtube to find out more.

found a review for your model here. the reviewer claims it can do raid. if the device can do it's own raid, then you should be able to plug in usb to qnap as an external usb storage. But the QTS won't manage that raid for you afaik.

this guy says you can do raid.... VIA windows 10 storage spaces. Afaik the storage spaces parity (kinda like raid5 equivalent) has cra-ppy performance (20-30 MB/s )

I don't have a TR-004 to test, but it has an inbuilt raid controller. but i suspect the performance won't be nearly as bad.

i would recommend TR-004 over that ORICO, because it has it's own raid controller. I don't particularly like Storage spaces for raid.... the only software raid that does it right is zfs. MDAM linux for hardware raid.
