TS-251D-2G memory upgrade

Post by Jonnie1 »

Just a FYI for owners of the TS-251D that want to upgrade their memory.
I installed two Crucial 4GB DDR4-2400 SODIMM 1.2V CL17 modules. Product SKU: CT4G4SFS824A for a total of 8GB.
These work fine. No issues at all.

Do you play Media via HDMI?

I replaced the same Crucial 8GB. When I tried to play media via HDMI, I found the interface took too long to response so I didn't dig too deep using that HDMI port.

At this time no. The main use of the NAS is for backup purposes.

Does anyone else recommend this memory for 251D or can anyone tell me how to access and run the Crucial scanner tool on the NAS? (I only have 2gb memory so can't install some of the Apps I think would enable me to do this)

Why, does it matter? Is different memory recommended if Media is played via HDMI?

The Crucial memory is still 100% in my system. No issues. Feel free to upgrade to 8 GB.

No but if u have more memory it might be a smoother playback if you do different things . I upgraded to Crucial 16GB

I download BD-R Rips ranging from 35+GB, via Kodi so playback in like butter

Hello guys !

I am a new owner of a qnap 251D as well and I have intented upgrading the RAM to 2 x 8Gb with Crucial 8GB DDR4-2400 SODIMM 1.2V CL17 but the NAS doesn't start at all.
I have put back the original 2GB ram + an additional 8GB in slot #2 and the nas starts but the 2nd ram is not recognized.
Can anyone tell me where I am wrong ?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Guillaume.

Make sure the ram is fully seated in the sockets. the second socket is hard to tell without looking closely. I noticed the issue when installing my ram. pulled the ram out and reinserted to make sure it was fully seated and latched in.

Thanks Jonnie1 for your answer.
I have tried to put it as well as I could but still not working. The NAS doesn't start.
I have ordered this batch of two RAM in Amazon. I don't know whether it is important or not but I have noticed the references are different:
CT8G4SFS824A.C8FDD1
CT8G4SFS824A.C8FBR1

Anyway I am going to try another brand such as this one : https://www.amazon.fr/PHS-memory-m%C3%A ... M357D?th=1 as there is a comment it is fully compatible with TS251-D 2G but it's more expensive than Crucial...

Hello there
Just to let you know it seems I have actually had received damaged RAM from Amazon. I actually ordered 2nd-hand ram...
I have bought new ram from Crucial and it finally works.
I have spoken with techical guy from the shop where I have bought my nas and he told me crucial is the most compatible and reliable RAM... just what he told...

Yes I found 4 cried on Virtual Machine and I play large 50GB + MKV files via Kodi and not much price difference so did it to 16gb
