TS-251+ DEAD - No beep, No Status, Not booting

Post by rflsouza »

I received this alert :
---------------------------------------------------------------
NAS Name: xbull
Severity: Error
Date/Time: 2021/02/24 10:51:22

App Name: Hardware Status
Category: Fans
Message: [Hardware Status] System fan 1 failed.
---------------------------------------------------------------

Now my TS-251+ looked dead !!! Fan is ok. I tried to reset, remove disk but nothing helps.

I tried to use a monitor to connect but not even a video shows, I changed the CMOS battery to see if it could help and nothing.

From what I saw in some forums it seems that there is no going back, there are some teaching how to solder a 100 ohm resistor, but I don't have that ability. I think I lost the storage.

Can I recover data on windows or linux? if I'm not mistaken I had a RAID 1. recommend any utility or mount the disc directly?

Try the 100Ohm first (easy)
If this does not work, migrate to a new compatible QNAP NAS

Next time have external backups at all times

The problem I'm in Brazil. It is not so simple and cheap to buy another compatible NAS. I made this purchase on a trip to the USA.

Unfortunately I don't have the skills to solder the 100 ohms, and it's hard to find a technician to do it.

I have a copy of the data, but it is a little out of date, I wanted from what I saw to mount the partition on linux. I wanted to know the best way.

Thanks for reply.

no soldering needed .. Dupont Cable wires do it just fine

mounting it is not trivial without skill (LVM layer on to of mdadm), so fixing or buying the NAS is your best option

That sad. I thought that mounting would be the best option to migrate the most recent data. I have a little familiarity with linux, but I never got to do something like just mount a common disk or usb?)

In case you buy an identical model, you only need to insert the discs! or do you need to do something to insert in the new one? I've never done a migration before.

Qnap data drives are not meant to be readable outside of the NAS, so they have a complicated structure of partitions and layers

Migration is explained here

I bought a new one, unfortunately for a high price in Brazil but it was the best solution! I like QNAP products a lot, unfortunately this one didn't last long, my old one is still alive with a friend and using it very happy.
