TL-D800C

Post by simpy »

Hi All,

Ok I'm pretty new to the NAS scene.
I have purchased a TL-D800C with the purpose of expanding my storage on my existing TS-853 Pro.

My existing TS-853 Pro is Raid 6.

I have installed all 8 new drives into my new TL-D800C and connected via the USB to my TS-853 Pro....

How do I now proceed to expand my current array to include this new expansion? ie create a single raid 6 from both units

Kind regards
Simpy

Insert disks into the enclosure and connect it ...then try the regular way of pool and subsequent volume expansion (unless it is a static volume..then it's only one step)

Ok, I'm still confused (yeah I know pfffft newbie)

I just want to add my D800 as extra capacity to my existing raid therefore increasing its volume. Is this possible?

I think so .. as said above, expand the pool then volume or only volume (if static)

Are you sure it's possible to expand an array of internal drives with external ones? Strike me as being risky.

I've read some more on this with the advice given by dolbyman. I've set my D800C to create new volume on raid 6. Hopefully after completion of setup (left it going whilst gone to work) I will be able to expand the 853 pro storage with the D800 storage....I'll report back.

to my understanding, the expand meant you could create say x8 hdds max raid6 on that, then make it as an accessible volume on the qnap nas you are linking it to, to expand your storage capacity.

but i doubt that you could say combine the hdds from the nas AND the expansion into a single raid pool. i believe that didn't work?

@dolbyman
The manual says sweet fa about it, just tells you how to connect to either NAS or laptop and how to install drives.

@moogle stiltzkin, yeah kinda thinking that would be the option I have but not sure till I get home later to see. Would have been awesome to turn my system into 16hdd instead of 2x8 but ah well, 1st world problems an all.
