Connect PC to Internet via NAS gigabit port

Post by sonder »

Hi guys, apologies for the noob question but I tried searching for tutorials or forums posts on this but couldn't find anything solid.
I have my TS-453 Pro connected directly to the router via adapter 1, and then I plug my PC ethernet cable into adapter 2 on the NAS.
Hw do I get the internet to work on my PC, at the moment its saying no internet access on my ethernet port on my pc?

Thanks.

Can you connect your PC to the router too? Some routers have 4 ports for LAN devices. ;)

Its a condo with a single port into the wall.
Is there no way to get internet working for my PC through the NAS?

just buy a cheap switch for 10 bucks...

virtual switch can bridge ports..but then your pc has no internet if the nas is shutdown

a typical home network would have like a Modem > router > switch. Then on that switch would be your client devices like your pc, nas, laptop etc.

If you run out of ethernet ports, get a switch. Or if switch has too few ports, get one with more ports.

So your pc and nas would both have internet because they are connected to the same network which is connected to the router. The router would have your ISP settings which connects to WAN, so that you have internet connectivity.

All your router then needs, is DHCP which then assigns devices on your lan a lan ip. So those devices will then have internet access.

Maybe this explanation is more down your alley. it explains the basics
