TVS-672N ---> TVS-672XT

Post by RichJacot » Wed Apr 21, 2021 12:40 am

Hopefully a quick question.

I had to send my TVS-672N back to QNAP for repair. It died on a reboot after the firmware a week and a half ago (or so). I rebooted, applied firmware and when it rebooted after the firmware update it was just dead. No lights no fans not beeps, nothing at all.

Anyway, QNAP just got back to me and said it'll be at least two weeks before they can get parts OR they can send me a TVS-672XT. I'm hoping my drives/RAID groups were unaffected by the system issue and when they sent me my repaired system back, I could restore a backup and then insert my drives as they were before. If I have them send me an XT instead of repairing my N, should I still be able to do that? I know they're very similar units spec. wise but I'm not sure about anything deeper than that.

Basically a free upgrade

5GbE port vs. 10GbE port and TB as add-on card.

An absolute Win

Great. Thank you Dolbyman!

I've told them an XT is fine and I'm just waiting to hear how quickly they can get it out to me.

Does anyone know if there is a specific order of steps I should follow once I receive the replacement unit?

In my mind I'm thinking:

Boot the unit up as is so I can get to a USB stick with my backup config file from my 672N and restore that.
Once the config backup is restored, shut it down and install my QM2 card, hard drives and attach the network connections. (I can switch to the new onboard 10Gbe after it's all up and running)
The next part I'm a bit gray on. I've see some threads where they have to import the raid group. I'm not sure if I'll need to do that. I'm guessing it depends on where the NAS was at when it died. As far as I could tell it shutdown properly and it just never came back up.

TIA

boot the new nas up without disks and do a diskless firmware update via qfiner

then shut it down and install all devices from your previous NAS, it should come up the same (config and volumes) as you old one did

oh, so I don't even need to restore my config backup?

That would be amazing if it's that easy.
