RMA process

QNAP finally agreed to replace my TVS-872XT board free-of-charge, and I have an RMA. I still have the original shipping box, so no worries on shipping.

How does it work though? I send back the NAS without HDDs and SSDs, but what about the Thunderbolt expansion card, do I leave that in the NAS?

And when I get it back with a new board, what is actually "installed"? Do I just insert my HDDs and SSDs, power it up, and all the settings are still there, or is it a new install?

I have never done this with a NAS before...

If you bought it with the card leave the card in .. if it was a model without the card take it out

same with the ram, the original must be in there otherwise they might refuse service

basically send it back the way you got it ..

when you get the swapped NAS, make sure you have the firmware current (disk-less update via qfinder) and start it up with the old drives

When you say have the current firmware, do you mean the firmware that is on my HDDs, or the most current one?

And... when I get the NAS back, you are saying I should start it up without disks, and then do the diskless update using QFinder. Then shut down, insert disks, start the NAS, and I will be back to "normal" with all the settings I am used to?

The firmware on the NAS needs to be equal or newer than the one on the disks .. that's it

That way the NAS should start up the way it was before

I got my new TVS-872XT back today, and I followed those instructions.

1) I started up the NAS with no disks, and did a FW upgrade using Qfinder, and turned it off.
2) I inserted the HDDs and the SSDs and started up the NAS.

It has now been sitting at "Booting... Starting System" for 30 min., and it still does not show up on Qfinder.

Suggestions?

Faaaaaaack, nearly gave me a heart attack. 35 min. it just sat there, and finally it plowed through, and got going... Seems OK now. Didn't know I had to find my Encryption passwords for my volumes...
