x53d - pcie nvme cache

Post by stigfaerch »

For my ts-253d, I bought a 3rd party pcie nvme adapter and installed an Intel 660p 512GB I had laying around for caching.
It's recognized all right, but when I try to create the ssd cache acceleration, the option PCIe 1 SSD 1 is just greyed out (as are the two hdd's in raid 1), so I cannot select it.
The question is if this will ever work?
Could the reason be that I'm running Qnap 5? Should I try to downgrade?
Could the reason be that the drive is not on the compatible list?
Or did I overlook something? I know that I cannot create as storage, but I just wanted to try the ssd caching.

Thanks in advance.

How do you come to that conclusion?

SSD Type: PCIe/NVMe M.2
Installation Method: 3rd-party M.2 to PCIe adapter card
SSD Cache : Yes
Storage Space: No

I created a support ticket. But so far they seem not very helpful. Feels like communicating with a bot.

Funny thing is that I found it is infact possible to install apps on the SSD drive. So it is working in some sense.

Hi! I've ran into a similar problem and solved.
Bought a 3rd party adapter for my Intel 600p NVME and mounted on my Qnap TS-251D. The NAS recognized the Intel SSD in the disks list but on the way to enabling the SSD Cache it was greyed out, I wasn't capable to select it as my cache.
The problem for me was that the SSD wasn't brand new, i had a bunch of partitions on it, I had to plug it in a pc, clean disk, and create a partition in EXT4 filsystem. If u don't have a linux machine like me u can use a program on Windows (DiskGenius, portable version), but I think that it would work also by only cleaning the SSD, without creating the EXT4 partition.

Hope this will solve ur problem!

disk cleaning in windows can be done with diskpart..no need for extra programs
