That's probably the best solution. You'll only need a small capacity UPS, and they are very reasonably priced nowadays, even the quality APC units. I ended up getting an APC BK350EI for my 409, which gives around 60 minutes grace.

In fact, if you read through this entire thread you'd find users have reported about a dozen APC UPSes working with their NASes.
Great, looks like a bunch of them when I read through the thread.

Thanks Steve.

Hi,

Does anyone know if QNAP is planning to include support for a wider range of UPS:s?

I have a Mustek Powermust with USB support. I have used Mustek for a long time and they work very well and are inexpensive.

Hello one and all.

I have a TS-509 pro, and an APC BE450G UPS. This inexpensive UPS appears to work perfectly with the TS-509.

209ProII & APC 900VA (BX900R-CN)

Post by _Rick_ »

Just a note to confirm that the APC 900VA (BX900R-CN) works with my 209Pro II. Auto shut down and auto cancel shut down has been tested several times and it has worked every time for me. When I set Alert Notification to High it sends an E-Mail letting me know the power is out and also when the power is restored if it's restored before the countdown to power off is reached. (it sure would be nice if the 209 would auto power-up when the power is restored after it's been auto shut down)
NOTE:
I cannot leave the Alert Notification setting on High because there is some thing funky going on with access violations through UDP port 1900 coming from either my Linksys WRT610N or SD2008 and I end up receiving hundreds of E-Mails with these access violation warnings. My System Event Logs are also filled up with these warnings full time.

stevebow,

I didn't realize you had a list of compatible power supplies. Thanks for the effort. I'm sure it will prove useful to QNAP users.

Hello!

I’m the happy owner of a brand new TS-409, what a lovely piece of equipment!

I’ve connected it to my UPS, but the QNAP doesn’t recognize it.. I can’t really blame it though, my UPS is quite old, and probably not really a known name  However it’s always served me well, and I’m not feeling like changing it as long as it’s working.

If you had a way to tweak my TS409 to at least shut down when on battery I would be more than thrilled, if not, well I still will cause it is really a great box!

The UPS is a Maxxtro MX-UPS600VA

Thanks for reading me!

Best regards,

When is Qnap going to release firmware to allow its storage devices (ts209 in my case) to be compatible with all HID-compliant UPS devices? this would surely solve 99% of problems posted to this forum by its users

Hi all!

I bought a APC Back-UPS ES 550GR and plugged it into my TS-509 Pro.
The UPS is instantaneously detected correctly and is displayed in the "UPS Information" section of the QNAP settings.
Shutdown works fine on AC power loss after configured time. Cool!

But:
 After some unpredictable amount of time (let's say one day or so) the APC Back-UPS data disappeares from the "UPS Information"... I either have to reboot the TS-509 or unplug the Back UPS from the USB-port and plug it back in to have it re-detected. After some time, the UPS data disappeares again...

Why is that??

Someone from QNAP, HELP!!
Will APC Back-UPS ES 550GR be fully supported in the near future?

Christian
