I've installed 8 x ST4000VN000 in my new TVS-871. No issues so far! It's been over 4 weeks. Fingers crossed.

Current status is 3887h, still no problems. Added a ST8000VN0002 recently. Besides being some 6-7 degrees Celsius warmer in full operations compared to the 4TB both in a TS251 nothing to report.

I've had 1 of 4 die. About 1 year in. Otherwise good.

I have purchased it to place in imac but unable to format it in compatible format in imac. any suggestion

I have just installed two ST6000VN0041 into my TS-251A. Working good, although they run almost 10C hotter than the WD50EFRX. Would be over 50C on a warm day. Neither Smart Fan nor user selected fan profile copes with this, fan RPM stays at < 1000 RPM.

I ended up setting the fan to 50%, that is still very quiet and keeps thing under40C.

do you know whether the new Seagate irownwolf NAS HDDs (http://www.seagate.com/internal-hard-dr ... /ironwolf/)
are compatible with my 4-bay qnap TS 459 pro II? I am asking because they are not in the compatibility list which I can find on qnap website

I installed a Seagate Iron Wolf 10TB NAS drive (ST10000VN0004) in my QNAP TS-453PRO six days ago, and it's been running like a champ ever since...no errors or issues and the NAS says it's "GOOD".

I have just completed a migration from WD Reds to Seagate Ironwolf, 16 drives in total. I had one drive (ST8000VN0022) that showed errors within a couple of days of use, Seagate replaced the drive for free within a couple of days. The oldest set of drives are about 6 months old now, the newest are two days old.

So far I have no issues with the drives or speed, I do find the Ironwolf drives are a bit noisier compared to the WD Red drives, but they are still quieter than the Hitachi drives I just took out of service.

ok after some research using QNAP Compatibility List and that on Seagates site at https://www.seagate.com/au/en/internal- ... patibility on the HDD ST4000NE0025 wondering if anyone out there is using these in their units and if you are able to provide any feedback on the drives, issues etc.

My only use of Seagate HDD's have been in desktop PC's and the times I have seen them and used them they have not been at all good with the MTBF.

I have 2x ST4000VN008 (4TB, non pro) in my 419P II and they are performing fine so far.It's only been a month or so, but with 3y warranty I am not concerned.

I swapped out a 3TB WD Red with a reported URE (online for 6 years so not complaining) for an IronWolf 8TB ST8000VN0022 and happy with it after 18 months.

Planning to increase capacity now so bought another IronWolf 8TB and it seems Seagate have superseded that model with the ST8000VN004, looking at the specs it's lighter and lower power consumption.

There is an issue though, IronWolf Health Management (IHM) is not recognised on the new drive in my TS-451+ (QTS 4.3.5), if it even has it? For some reason the firmware version on the newer drive VN004 is SC60 and my 1st drive VN0022 is SC61. I've asked Seagate support for SC61 but I get the canned response that it already has the latest firmware for it - this may be true but I'm sceptical and leaves me without one of the key benefits of IronWolf over Reds. I also have an open support ticket with QNAP to see if it needs a compatibility update in QTS or something.

After having terrible reliability issues with Segate's previous NAS drives (3 RMAs in 2 years) being the reason I went Red, alarm bells are ringing. Is the VN004 a compromise on quality rather than a genuine attempt to be more power efficient and lighter on resources? There are reports online (Netgear forums) of issues with SC60 firmware on other drives and users being fed the same line that SC61 is not an option when 1 person bought 4 drives with 3 on SC60 and 1 on SC61 out of the factory (and an eventual update to SC61 fixing the issues). Why don't Seagate have confidence in their firmware?

I took a leap of faith buying that first IronWolf believing that Seagate had learned a lesson but, while I have no reason to question the drive itself yet, the brush-off response from 1st level support that didn't actually answer my question (about IHM in QNAP) has me thinking Red again when it comes to replacing the other two 3TB drives with 8TB.

It may be that these drives are absolutely fine but IHM doesn't work out of the box and it should. If Seagate want to restore my confidence in them, they have to do better with 1st level support and make their minds up about which firmware they're actually using.

I'll report back when I have an answer to IHM on the new drive.
