TS-469L Memory Upgrade

Post by jerrygaoyi »

I just upgrade my new TS-469L by Crucial CT25664BF1339 2GB memory, but after I installed this memory to the empty slot, the qfinder cannot find this nas anymore. But when I uninstall the memory, qfinder can find my nas again. Do I get a bad memory? I saw many people said Crucial CT25664BF1339 works with TS-469L. Any solution for this?

I know from experience that the same part numbers are used for different memory modules. The one you need has to have 8 memory chips. Most newer ones seem to have 16 chips (8 on both sides) and that won't work.

Only single-side and single-channel - others don't work.

No, the Atom has limitations shown above, nothing the BIOS can do.

I also got a 469L recently and upgraded ram as well. My experience is also that 8-chip variety works. The 16 chip Kingston that had around didn't work. I looked around in used shops and got myself a Micron one (Sorry, forgot to copy the part number) that has 4 chips per side and that worked. I was looking for those "known to work" ones originally but 2GB So-dimm DDR3 rams are not exactly current market material and they were almost impossible to find, and searching the net seems to indicate that 8-chip is the holy grail. BTW, the sign of it working (as I noticed) is that upon plugging in power, the fan speed is lower (than with the non-working ones), and you get the start-up beep pretty soon.

Sorry for being not much help, but looking for a piece of RAM that works on the cheap was kinda difficult, and I was quite happy to have got it working.

Just to add to this thread. Corsair CMSO2GX3M1A1333C9 worked for me.

Bought kingston valueram KVR13L9S6/2 (4 chips) for 12$.
Didn't work in the expansion slot - for some reason the system recognized it as e-sata and hung up.
So i tried to switch it with the primary memory stick (Qnap glues on A-Data...) and it worked.

Odd, can't find any formal specs by Kingston for this model ... suspect brand pirate packaging.

FYI I just successfully installed a 2GB module. Bringing total to 3GB (verified in QTS). :-)

It was a Samsung M471B5773DH0-CH9 (8 chip, as needed by this model).
I got the RAM from these guys in the UK (currently $20USD + S/H):
https://www.mrmemory.co.uk/memory-ram-u ... as/ts-469l

Here's the "dmidecode -t memory" output (truncated some lines for brevity):
Memory Device

Form Factor: SODIMM
Locator: DIMM0
Bank Locator: BANK 0
Type: DDR3
Type Detail: Synchronous
Speed: 1066 MHz

How did you manage to get this working when the max. supported memory is 3 GB according to: https://www.mrmemory.co.uk/memory-ram-u ... as/ts-469l

Also, did the system detect 4 GB, 3 GB or 5 GB? I would think 5 GB since the 1st (primary) slot is apparently not upgradable as it's a glued 1 GB slot but it's easy to remove the glue and replace with whatever ram you want to try.

I'm trying to find the cheapest max. size to upgrade my system. My system is with the D2701 cpu and has 1 GB of ADATA ram that qnap ships it with.

If the 4GB Hynix worked in the primary slot, I wonder if a 2nd 4GB Hynix would work in the secondary slot for a total of 8 GB ram. 4 GB is already over the max. total of 3 GB so if that works why not try 2 x 4 GB?

Based on an khunpoom's comment I have just bought and tried a HYNIX 4GB HMT351S6BFR8C in my QNAP TS469L and it does not boot up.

I tried it in the main slot with nothing in the outside slot as well as in the outside slot in addition to my existing Kingston 2GB in the main slot and in the outside slot with nothing in the main slot i.e. I tried every possible combination with the Hynix.

No idea how it could have worked as claimed by khunpoom because it certainly doesn't work on mine.

I just bought two sticks of the exact same ram. Both are detected in their slots (bank 0, bank 1) but unfortunately it only sees 3 GB (2.93 GB to be exact):

# dmidecode -t memory
# dmidecode 3.1

Not sure why because it clearly shows that 4 GB is the maximum and that's what I was hoping to see.

dmesg shows also 3 GB:
[ 0.000000] Memory: 3060156k/3136448k available (6740k kernel code, 4320k absent, 71972k reserved, 2607k data, 1280k init)

and this:

[ 0.000000] Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/bzImage root=/dev/ram0 rw video=VG
A-1:1024x768 video=DVI-D-1:1024x768 quiet splash console=/dev/null mem=4G

Doesn't appear as though 1 GB is being reserved for video or anything.

Make sure you insert it all the way. I thought I had mine all the way in and it wouldn't boot until I made sure. Might also be faulty ram so return or exchange it if you still can otherwise go for the ram I bought (very cheap and still out there - M471B5773DH0-CH9). I bought 2x2GB but I think the max. is only 3 GB on the QNAP TS469L so that's why I only see 3 GB.
