lan 10gb

Post by fraste03 »

hi guys i have a problem with my network configuration
I explain well hoping that you understand and can give me a little help
I have a ts 670 pro i7 and 16gb with a raid 5 and a pci card with two sata ssd and a 10gb lan on the pci card.
the ts 670 is equipped with two integrated 1gb lan which are connected to the 1gb network switch to which my pc is obviously connected.
instead I would like to connect directly with pposito crossed cable lan cat 7 the pc to the qnap with the 10GB port.
on my pc I installed an asus card with a 10gb port through the pci ex port
yesterday I tried the configuration and it goes but I can't go up more than 150mb of transfer per second from nas to pc .... while with the two 1gb ports passing through the switch I get about 110mb .... I would like the card network from 10gb went at least to 500mb per second .... 150mb is a bit 'few ..... where am I wrong?

is the 10GbE card in a different subnet ?
why connect 2x 1GbE, if your effective speeds are just 1x1Gbe ? or did you test with more than one client simultaneously?
what are the two nas ssd doing ? (cache, tier, volume)

actually i don't know why i attached two 1gb lan cables ... i thought it was better, i assigned 2 static ip to these two ports ... should i put them in trunking mode?
for the other 10gb card it is in another subnet in fact from the pc I have to disable the primary connection (i.e. the 1gb one that goes from pc to router) and enable the other 10gb network card that goes direct from pc to qnap
the two ssd sata, one I configured it as a system read cache and the other I installed two VMs

Just use one of the 1GbE, you only use two if you know what you are doing (trunking, different, subnets, VM's etc)

and dolbyman thanks for your reply

my nas is a 670 pro i7 3770t and 16gb ram
5 hdd in raid 5 and a pci card with two sata ssd and a 10gb slot
the two sata one does the cache and the other two VMs are installed
how can i get higher transfer speeds with the 10gb lan card direct with cat6 cable crossed to the pc?
thanks

no need for crossed cable, due to Auto MDI-X
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medium-de ... _interface

If you have 10GbE on NAS and 10GbE on PC, you have the fastest interface available to you

Limiting factors then are NAS CPU and drives and PC CPU and drives.

If you use SATA SSD you will be limited to the cache speed (it will not reach 10GbE speeds)

I configured the two cat 6 cables from 1gb lan in 802.3 trunkig and put them in my asus rtac88u at port 1 and 2 lan and enabled bounding aggregation and so far everything is ok. now I only have a static ip.

as for the 10gb card which is a qm2-2s10g1t and I mounted 2 ssd sata evo samsung 1 terabyte each

in the pc instead I mount a pci card ex asus xg-c100c

how is it possible that if i transfer from qnap to pc via lan10gb i arrive at a maximum of 150mb per second?
with 1gb ports I get to 110mb .... all this money for only 40mb more per second?

how should i set the jumbo frames?

in the pc I left the auto negotation mode under the properties of the asus 10gb card

is there something wrong?

unclear what that meant, cache removal should be easy (cache drives are for cache only and also do not add space as Qtier would)

IS MY QUESTION ONLY REMOVE SSD FROM CACHE?
BECAUSE IN THE SAME Q2M BOARD WHERE THE 10GB LAN PORT IS ALSO BEYOND THE SSD CACHE A LATRA SSD configured as a single volume where I have installed 2 Virtual machines

removing the cache does not mean remove the drive, remove the cache via GUI

also never do (write) cache on a single drive .. always raid1+
