How do I reach vpn

Post by Mican »

Hi,
I do not know where to start so I'm starting to ask in this forum.
A few years ago I let a person (an idiot who sounded better than he was) help me create a VPN, I can not log in anymore, I need to reset the password but do not know where to do it, can not do anything about vpn so please answer and ask so I understand.
The reason I start here is because I have a QNAP NAS TVS-673 with QVPN Service 3 where it says "Active local VPN servers (1/1)" PPTP Server which I guess has to do with this.
Grateful for all the help I can get.
Software version: 5.0.0. 1891.

Best to not use QVPN anymore..it has been used as an attack vector in recent versions

Use a VPN server on capable router or a dedicated appliance (e.g. raspi)

Also do not use pptp anymore...it is unsafe

OK thanks. What do you recommend I use for vpn? I have a "Dream machine Pro" to.
The only thing I want to be able to do is access all my data on my 3 NAS when I'm not home.

Which op system do you recommend for RPi, if you are going to run this?

With the light load of a vpn server (another reason to use Wireguard) and the power of RPI4 I just used what used to be called Rasbian https://www.raspberrypi.com/software/
You could use a non gui variety if you were using a lower spec RPI but the RPI4 is so cheap I cannot see the point.
