Deny SMB1 host (security limitation)

Post by fowldogs »

This weekend, I upgraded to QTS 5.0.1.2145. Everything appeared to work fine and all workstations successfully connect to the NAS.

However, I received a message today that the Xerox WorkCentre is not able to scan to the QNAP. I get this error
Accessed Resources: Deny SMB1 host (security limitation).
Action: Failed to log in

Nothing other than the firmware upgrade was changed over the weekend.

I attempted to create a new user and give access to the Share thinking that perhaps the Xerox config corrupted and I entered the new credentials. The same error occurs. So the QNAP appears to be blocking SMB access to only the XEROX unit. But no other information is provided to know where to look for where it is blocked. Any advice?

SMB1 is now disabled by default (security reasons).
You can enable this again in Microsoft Networking, but you should check if Xerox is able to use SMB2 or higher.

I have an Axis camera that was SMB1 and not working. I updated to SMB2.1 and it's working fine, but I'm getting the Deny SMB1 host (security limitation) every 10 minutes, precisely. It isn't impacting functionality. Any ideas?

So you are saying the axis camera is still trying to connect via SMB1 and triggering these log entries?

This has driven me nuts for the last 24h following QNAP upgrade. I have an older Samsung printer / scanner. Doesn't look like there is an SMB2 option. How exactly do I enable it in "Microsoft networking" Thanks.
