File Share not available

Post by mtissington »

I have an odd problem, I login as admin user. I have a File Share called VMs - it exists and has virtual machines in it which are running on the NAS.
The folder correctly appears in Storage and Snapshots.
In Control Panel -> Shared Folders it correctly appears and I have r/w access.

The issue is:

In FileStation 5 the folder/share does not appear - all other shares are visible.
And when trying to access the share from MacOs or Windows, it appears but errors out with resource not available.

ANy ideas please?

TVS-472XT
QTS Hero 5.0.1.2192

Since posting I have managed to make it appear by editing the permissions but it has left me a little confused.

I had administrator set to r/w and everyone set to deny.
My understanding was that having the "administrators" would override "everyone" group.

I have both added and set to r/w
I also had "everyone" group set to deny.

It seems "everyone" group had priority.

I meant what user/group was accessing the NAS at the time

New setups disable the user admin for some false sense of security (doesn't work, NAS can still easily get hacked) but this user is needed for some 'low level' administrative tasks, and no administrator group user can do these.

The user accessing the nas from macos and also logged into the nas webpage is me, "michael" and I have r/w access to the share and also a member of the administrators group.
However I still could not see/access the share until I removed the "everyone" group for the Permissions.

Thats correct. Everyone is everyone and you set it to "Deny". So it overrides the setting for admin and admin group.
The policy with the highest security (=lowest access) wins.

That is my understanding.
