SFTP command not available on the server?

Post by BenAttenborough »

Hi there, first of all forgive me if this is a naive question.

I have successfully logged on to my QNAP server via SSH, and I can use the ftp command to transfer files. However when I go to use the sftp command I get the message sftp: Command not found.
I did try to copy the sftp command to to server but that seems to be blocked.
Is it the case that the sftp command cannot be used from the shell?
My ultimate aim is to schedule sending a file to another server via sftp, alas I do not have ssh access to the other server and sftp is the only option I have.

Actually I discovered that the SCP command can securely send files, I just didn't understand the syntax (you specify the port with -P after the scp command).

Many tools and utilities are available with Entware, current is Entware-3x -> viewtopic.php?f=351&t=124894#p561965 (first post, link might depend on forum preference).

By rule of thumb, SCL dopes default to the port 22/TCP, the standard for SSH.
