hdd connected to the router..why?
how about connecting it to the nas ?
if the router has smb filesharing you can just mount the smb on the nas (most routers are terribly slow though)

Hdd connected to the router because before last week I didn't have a nas. I bought it for sharing files with my family and before last week i did it by my router netgear. It offered me a free ddns and ftp server by usb port. Now I want to set nas to use it for this reason.
Do you know if d6400 netgear has smb?thanks for your support.

family fileshare sounds like risksy business(see threads about hacked qnap units that are exposed to the web)
I looked at the manual quickly .. and yes..."readyshare" is using smb

I read manual but I don't see "remote connection" from filestation. Where is it?

I know risks but, if you can't or doesn't wanto share, why do you want to buy a nas?

Probably faster to connect usb drive to QNAP.
Use the forum search feature before posting.
Use RAID and external backups. RAID will protect you from disk failure, keep your system running, and data accessible while the disk is replaced, and the RAID rebuilt. Backups will allow you to recover data that is lost or corrupted, or from system failure. One does not replace the other.
