Slow Shares

I have an issue with my QNAP.

It is very slow to access shares and sometimes it doesn't allow access at all.
Its configured as a domain controller.

I've also noticed that PCs take a long time to login even though I'm using local profiles.
gpupdate /force just took over half an hour.

When I log into the web interface resources look fine. When I try and add a domain user to the folder permission I select domain user from the pull down and then it just sits there saying "Loading data, please wait...". Its been sat there an hour so far.
All PCs on the network are affected.
This has been happening since I applied the last firmware.

I suspect its something to do with the domain user permissions.
