shared folder not accessible

Post by Blisk »

I have fresh disks in my TS 212 and installed latest firmware.
Than I created new folder to share it.
Now I try to acces to that folder and it is not possible.
I can go to IP \\192.168.1.123 in explorer and see all shared folders but when I try to open some of it I get error 0x80070035
I set all permission to read write to all folders and nothing I even set permission for guest to read write and it is the same.
I use windows 10 to access that network share.

what is the SMB protocol version enabled on this QNAP ?

that said, I just installed a 212p last week and it was working fine with Win10 (no SMB modification needed)

What firmware version are you running ?

ok 2.1 should be fine

is the issue just with guest access or also with authenticated users ?

issue is for all users. It should ask me for username and password but it doesn't.
and none of folders are accessible, I can see it but can not open.
I get error 0x80070035

I have the same issue (i posted already in the forum so I am sorry for that)
I just reinstalled windows 10 with latest updates and I am using a QNAP NAS with QTS 4.5.3 with IP 192.168.0.4 (this is a fantasy IP of course)
typing \\192.168.0.4 in windows explorer results in showing JUST the Public folder and I am not asked for the NAS credentials
The NAS configuration is the same as before (i.e. where everything was working and I can still access the nas folders from other PCs)
When I access the NAS folders windows strangely does not ask for any user and password and I cannot remember how to set this manually ...

the server name is NAS-ZP. I was never able to access it by \\NAS-ZP... I am using explicit IP, still I would like to use the \\name. Any hints?

SMB version is 3.0

This means that the \\server\share is found on a Unix system (QNAP with QTS OS and the clients A and B are Windows10. To be precise, client A can access all the \\server\ subfolder while client B can just access \\server\Public. This demonstrates that this is related to client B network / firewall or whatever configurations (not solved yet)
- I have enabled network discovery on W10 client B: should not this be enough??
- what trick on the QTS side? I suppose none since it works for client A.
I posted the same issue on a windows 10 forum
I am wondering WHY Public and not the other folders? The permission on the NAS side are OK (only one user admin who can RW to everythig ...)
I am thinking to reinstall windows again ...

The Public shared folder allows guest access, it doesn't require authentication. By default Windows attempts to authenticate to the file server with your Windows account username and password, if the username and password don't match anything on the server, then access is refused or guest access is allowed if applicable.

To connect with specific username and password, use the 'Map network drive' or 'Add a network location' functions in Windows Explorer, select the option to 'Connect using different credentials', and then select the option to 'Remember my credentials'.

Make sure WS-Discovery is enabled on the NAS: Control Panel > Network & File Services > Win/Mac/NFS > Microsoft Networking > Advanced Options > Enable WS-Discovery to help SMB clients discover the NAS.
