TS-253A Sharing does not work

Post by m5167 »

I have TS-253A nas
I had two 1GB disks on the device
I would see a folder on each disk

I replaced them with 4GB disks each
Now only one device appears and is not accessible
Where I create the shared folders back

i want discs without Raid
It does not work

I added pictures of the settings I made

you need to create the default shares and whatever individual shares you want

check the manual for share management

p.s. pretty sure you mean TB and not GB ..unless the drives are 20 years old

i've seen worse. i have a old usb flash drive that has 512mb.... lmfao....

yes you could setup individual drives as volumes. once done, go create shares and point to which volume.

3 seconds youtube search "qts how to create a share"

when you create a share, you also need to have samba (smb) service enabled. during the smart install it would have prompted you to enable this service then, if you hadn't, you have to go qts > services and enable smb.

then on windows 10 pc, browse to networking select your nas from the list to login to it using windows explorer. it will prompt you for your credentials. make credentials otherwise you have to re-enter again manually each time.

So now you can go to those shares from win10 file explorer to access your files/folders.

smb is working
Each disk has a shared folder
Each folder has permissions for everyone to read and write

When I access the network
I see the name of the device
When I tap on it
I get a message that requires a username and password
I need to enter the admin name and admin password
To enter

I want it to be as before
That both folders appeared on the network
And you do not need any user to enter

if you dont want any credential pop ups, you either

1. do credential but save credentials. so you only enter once

2. enable guest access

before this you must

1. have the hdds setup volumes. if doing raid a pool.
2. enable smb
3. create shares to point toward the volume created
4. go to share permissions, then enable guest access.

then on a windows 10, go networks, browse to your nas click it opens windows explorer and it won't prompt credentials.

ez. you are welcome :)

Re: TS-253A Sharing does not work

Post by m5167 »

I have already allowed guest access
smb is working
I did all these steps
I wrote this in the previous post

And it still does not work
The situation is as I described in the previous post

The only thing that is not clear to me
This is section 3 of what you wrote down

What do you mean "create shares to point toward the volume created"
I have already created the folders and their permissions
I did not understand the next step "point toward the volume created"

In qts go to > control panel > shared folders >

1. click the icon for permission, check this is correct. guest access needs to be enabled for each share you want to have this enabled.

2. then check edit properties, make sure that is correct

If you are using windows 10, make sure network discovery is enabled
https://www.dummies.com/computers/opera ... indows-10/

Then right click on file explorer, browse down to network, see if your qnap is listed. click that. It should work at this point.... unless there is something else that requires further troubleshooting

also i assume you are using a static fixed lan ip for your qnap yes? :'
