I am trying to (carefully) clean-out the recycle bin using File Station.
It refuses to delete Microsoft Office temporary files such as "~bla bla.docx" with the message "System Message: There were input errors, please try again later"
If I try to delete these files in Windows Explorer, it says it is a "system file" - are you sure you want to delete it. Answering Yes deletes the file successfully.
Is there an option somewhere in File Station to permit deleting these files?

what user are you using for file station? make sure it's admin (admin) and no replacement user

ah, I had disabled the "admin" account and made a new admin account. Indeed, using the "admin" account does work.
Pretty crap that an alternative admin account won't do the same.
Thankyou dolbyman

Logging in as the genuine "admin" does allow you to delete some files that start with a "~" (eg ~bla.pst.tmp[xx]) - but still not ~$bla bla.docx (the "$" must add another level of protection)

It is not a protection level, its a locked file from MS Office.
Seems that office was not shutdown properly, this results in such "ghost" files.

How they got there is not really the point - it's how to get rid of them

Well, they should autodelete from your recycle bin assuming to delete by age., Example anything older than 30 days.
You can always try a manual delete via SSH, and even automate a cleanup using the "find" command on a schedule. I do this for temporary files left over by my scanner utility, albeit in my main documents directory, not the recycle bin, bit same idea.
