Hi, I have a few QNAP NAS with the "standard" fw and a QNAS TS-h886 with QuTS hero h5.0.1.
I have a problem in this one. I can't find options to change owner of a folder. On the non-hero NASs the option is available through "Enable advanced folder permissions" (Control Panel>Shared Folders>Advanced Options), but in the hero the "Advanced Options" tab is not available. How can i change the owner using the QNAP GUI? I know I can use the chown command to do it using a terminal, but I'm sure there's a way to do it using the graphical interface. I mean, if the non-hero versions have it, why should it have been removed from the more advanced hero firmware?

QTS and QuTS have different ACL models
You can chose the owner of a shared folder (share) in QuTS:
Control Panel > Shared Folders > edit permission > Edit Shared Folder Permission Owner: (top right of that window) here you can chose local and domain users)

thanks, i changed the owner through that menu. However, even if I changed the owner, it still retains the administrator user group. How can I change the user group too? Specifically, I want to set the user group to everyone.

Re: Change owner of a shared folder on QuTS Hero
when you are in the "Edit Folder Permissions" tab enable "Individual Permissions", then you will see an ACL drop in to the bottom of the screen to allow access via Groups. does that help? you can then set to block certain groups perhaps and allow the rest.
this allows individual permissions on all users/groups AND selection to :Unix/Windows Basic and Special Permissions.

Re: Change owner of a shared folder on QuTS Hero
i have already enabled individual permissions and "everyone" group already has R/W permissions but it still not working properly, users can't access the folder. I know that what works for me is when the folder's user group is set to "everyone" (or other user groups that aren't administrators), and I can't find the proper way to do it using hero's GUI.Toxic17 wrote: ↑Wed May 17, 2023 4:56 pm when you are in the "Edit Folder Permissions" tab enable "Individual Permissions", then you will see an ACL drop in to the bottom of the screen to allow access via Groups. does that help? you can then set to block certain groups perhaps and allow the rest.

I can only suggest then you raise a ticket with QNAP Support and see what they say.
