Model: QNAP TS-251D
Current Firmware Version: QTS 5.0.1.2194 / Problem started from Firmware Version: QTS 5.0.1.2173
Windows Version: Windows 10 Version 1709
I use Win10 File explorer search to find similar filenames. This used to work as normal before the QTS 5.0.1.2173 firmware update.
After the QTS 5.0.1.2173 firmware update, the Win10 File explorer search is broken. It does not search and gives me a blank result. This is the case for every other computer in my office as well. However, as soon as I restart the NAS, the Win10 File explorer search works perfectly for a couple of minutes and stops again.
BTW, I've never indexed the NAS on my computer before; I just enter the IP address into windows and saved the server folder as a shortcut. Personally, I feel this is an issue on the NAS side and not on computer side.
I've attached a screenshot to highlight the issue in case you're unable to understand.
I'd highly appreciate if someone can help me solve this issue.

Re: Can no longer search NAS files via Win10 File Explorer search
Just checkd here (TS-473A, QTS 5.0.1.2194 installed today).
Works perfectly at my end.
But to be honest I do not often used this "search" bar in past...
Win 10 build 1709 is rather old, isnt it?
Regards

Re: Can no longer search NAS files via Win10 File Explorer search
It has been a while, but isn't there a windows option to allow/enable searching on a share?

Re: Can no longer search NAS files via Win10 File Explorer search
Yeah I know, I'm due for an update. But this issue is persistent with other updated Win10 computers as well. The issue is definitely on the NAS side. Any suggestions I could try?

Re: Can no longer search NAS files via Win10 File Explorer search
Unfortunately no.
May be a silly idea, is SMBv1 disabled? May its worth a try and enable it. No idea, which mechanism the search is using.
But this is more an act of desperation...

Re: Can no longer search NAS files via Win10 File Explorer search
Quick Update!
So, I downgraded the Firmware Version from QTS 5.0.1.2194 to QTS 5.0.0.2131 and the issue was resolved. The Win10 File Explorer Search worked.
I guess this issue started from Firmware Version QTS 5.0.1.2145. I've already notified the QNAP Technical Team to look into it.
Thank you to everyone who helped, Cheers!

Re: Can no longer search NAS files via Win10 File Explorer search
I thought search was broken too, I even installed the Qsirch PC app, but that didn't help either
then I stumbled across this page, and it now works
https://www.qnap.com/en-us/how-to/tutor ... e-explorer
The "trick" is, that the syntax has now changed, so if you want to search a folder tree, for videos, you now type
type: video
or a name of a folder, you use
folder: Windows 10
I just tested it on one of my 10TB drives, with thousands of folders on it, and it returns the results in less than 6 seconds !

Re: Can no longer search NAS files via Win10 File Explorer search
Is there a fix to this yet? Now running, 5.0.1.2277
I have tried with qsirch as in the post above but it doesn't seem to be able to set search to specific folders
As above, folder search works fine for local folders but returns nothing when searching mapped folders from the NAS.
This is happening on all the computers in our network, both Win10 and Win11

Re: Can no longer search NAS files via Win10 File Explorer search
My issue determined to be:
TESTA created: shows as testa in explorer: nothing found in folder
testb created: shows as testb in explorer: file found
TestC created: shows as TestC in explorer: file found
Existing folder moved into TestC and successfully searched
Conclusion: A shared NAS folder with all UPPERCASE name is now not searchable under windows10 & 11 explorer search
Response from QNAP:
Our dev team has confirmed this issue and they are working on the solution now. The fix will be implemented in QTS 5.0.1.2282 and later version. Please wait for the new firmware release. Thank you.
