Losing Space - Network Recycling Bin Disabled

Post by ts569prohelp »

QNAP: TS569 Pro
Firmware Version: 4.3.3.0262 Build 20170727
QSnyc Enabled
Network Recycling Bin Disabled
Windows 10 64-bit

I am consistently losing space on my QNAP and I have no idea why. I have my QNAP set up with five (5) 3TB drives in a JBOD format with a total capacity of 13.23TB, According to Storage Manager, I've used 5.54TB. However, that is next to impossible as I nothing but a 8.04GB file in one folder and nothing in the other two folders. I have Show Hidden Files and Folders enabled. I do have QSnyc enabled but the lone folder I have synced on my local computer is only 54.2GB.

I do not want to simply reformat the QNAP as that will not answer the actual problem. There is over 5.5TB of data on my QNAP that I cannot find. The strangest part is that every time I delete something from the QNAP, the available disk space decreases. Again, the network recycling bin is disabled.

Not as of yet. Do you mean run check disk on QNAP within Windows? Do it matter that it's a network drive? ...or is there a way to do that through Terminal/SSH?

See the documentation for how to perform it:

Check this...

Code: Select all

du -s /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/*
This will create an output like this - a good start for where to investigate:

[~] # du -s /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/*
12 /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/AAAtest
8 /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/aquota.user
7912 /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/Download
100 /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/homes
16 /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/lost+found
165309636 /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/Multimedia

Thanks. Here is what I got after it completed...

From what I can tell, both the 57615896KB/57.6GB folder and the 8597212/8.59GB folder are accurate. The former is QSync and the latter is What is currently on the QNAP. That still leaves well over 5TB unaccounted. I'm not one to throw this word around but is there any way this could be a viral issue? I enabled the QNAP antivirus. Would this be better than the local computer-level antivirus protection I use?

I figured that was a long shot. Any other thoughts as to what this may be?

Trexx, is that "Control Panel -> Storage Manager -> Disks -> Action -> Scan Now" for each drive?

I don't think I need to check my file system at this time. I do not have any error messages indicating my file system is not clean. Additionally, this is what I see when I go to Storage Manager -> Storage Space
