Files slow to appear in network drives

Post by latitude91 »

We have a QNAP TS-419P II and have recently noticed that when accessing shared folders from Windows, not all of the files/folders appear immediately. They take a minute or two to appear.

For example, we have a drive mapped (or go direct using the unc path) - it only shows 50% of the files/folders but the windows 'green bar' appears to creep across the file explorer screen as it thinks. Eventually, all folders appear. We navigate into a folder and then go back, whereupon it has vanished again for several minutes.

A restart of the NAS sees it work ok for a while (measured in minutes) but it soon starts failing again.

Disk health is good, load average is ok, firmware has been updated to 4.3.3.0351 just in case of any issues there.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Wireless or Gb network - same result

Tried re-applying permissions to one of the affected shares but it didn't help.

Ended up taking the NAS off the domain, rejoining it and reapplying the security and all now appears to be well. Would love to know what caused the issue in the first place.
