Cannot access NAS through File Explorer (Web ok)

Post by njarvisto »

Ive recently upgraded from a TS259 Pro+ to a TS253be & now cannot access any folders through file explorer :S
I can access through web GUI, QFile (iOS) & myqnapcloud - everything worked fine before migrating to the new hardware. I am sure that there is just one silly little setting that's killing it, but for the life of me I cannot work out what.

Im running windows10,
TS-253be firmware 4.3.4.0644
checked user has permission to access the folders.
I can ping both IP & NAS name with zero loss
I have deleted and reset any credentials to access - the error appears to be occurring before credentials are checked.
Checked nil restrictions on IP or blocking for IP to access.
QFinder Pro 6.5.0 - "Network Drives" button does nothing & shows no error.

Error:
"Windows cannot access \\xxxxxx" [or \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx]
"Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose".

The second error I get [after encrypting folders to allow remote access from QNAP Tech support]
"You cant connect to the file share because its not secure. This share requires the obsolete SMB1 protocol, which is unsafe and could expose your system to attack. Your system requires SMB2 or higher..."

Any thoughts?

In Control Panel Win/Mac/NFS have you enabled SMB 3?

Solved!
Thank you kind sir

Why on earth that was the issue (& it took QNAP support over a week so far with no resolution!)
You would think that this would be default? I wonder why it was an issue when I migrated to the new qnap?

I assume it inherited the settings which had only SMB 1.0!

I’ll check this out - interesting though that I had no issues with the TS259 Pro+ (I upgraded due to a faulty power connection & it was virtually the same price to replace the power/motherboard as to buy a new unit)

Thanks. This fixed my issue as well. For the benefit of others, in firmware 4.3.6.0923 the SMB setting is in Control Panel / Network and File Services / Microsoft Networking / Advanced Options / Highest SMB Version.
