Windows 10 (1803) cannot see TS-212 (4.3.3.0868)
Hi. I have the above, NAS has been offline for 2 years. Turned it on and it updated to 4.3.3. Can ping it from PC, can access in a browser. PC and NAS on same network, same workgroup.Cannot see in Windows Explorer, \\IP and \\QNAP fail. The QNAP media server and TwonkyMedia devices are visible in Windows Explorer, file shares not.
I searched forums and tried enable SMB3 as that seemed a possible but my OS build version does not have the 'highest SMB' option in Win/Mac/NFS Advanced.
Apologies if this has been solved but I couldn't find a solution on search. Any assistance appreciated.
thx

There are a few issues that can cause this, but usually its down to what version of smb protocol is running on the NAS and what the Windows PC has enabled.
if you using the search button on these forums you will see plenty of topics regarding this. you need to have windows have support for the same smb version as you nas supports.

you may also need to enable smb 1.0 support in windows.

Re: Windows 10 (1803) cannot see TS-212 (4.3.3.0868)
Thankyou Toxic.
Never SSHd before but managed to do so and set SMB3 per instructions.
Added SMB1 support in windows Features which was unticked.
Check all the usual Windows Networking discovery etc - all were ok.
Disabled NordVPN feature 'cybersec', also internet kill and invisible on LAN were off.
Deleted and re-entered login details to admin in Windows Credentials.
Stupidly I did all at the same time so not actually sure what did the trick but it did so thanks again.

SMB3 can be set via the GUI CP, Win/Mac/NFS
I would not enable SMB1

It could have been the VPN blocking access. I have come across this about two years back. Had to put in an exception in the VPN client, once that was done the NAS appeared.
We all do multiple changes at once when we know better... get into a habit of doing one change (making notes of what, where and how you did the change also helps here), save and test and repeat next setting modification.

Re: Windows 10 (1803) cannot see TS-212 (4.3.3.0868)
You are right Johnno - it was a rookie mistake! But anyway all fixed.
@storageman - in 4.3.3 the option to amend to SMB3 in the gui seems to have disappeared. I will undo some of my changes and see which one was the issue incl SMB1 on windows.
Thanks for the replies and help

In these legacy units, use this:
[~] # smb3enable
...
smbd (samba daemon) Version 4.4.16
smbd (samba daemon) is running.
max protocol SMB 3 enabled.
Checking it:
[~] # smb2status
smbd (samba daemon) Version 4.4.16
smbd (samba daemon) is running.
max protocol SMB 3 enabled.
No easy way to disable ... of course one might consider to edit the smb.conf manually and set the min version to 2.0 or the like.
Yes - to get NetBIOS host discovery and name resolution, it's required to enable the SMB 1.0/CIFS Client feature.

Re: Windows 10 (1803) cannot see TS-212 (4.3.3.0868)
Thanaks schumaku. I had not SSHd before and I dd as you said above to get SMB3 up - I think it was from your reply on another topic so thanks.
On a related subject - is my TS212 too old to be useful? If I bought a newer one would that be the 251P2 - and can I use the same 2 disks from the 212? (I assume it would factory reset but that would be fine)
thx

Re: Windows 10 (1803) cannot see TS-212 (4.3.3.0868)
As long as you are happy with it's performance, the TS-212 does get support and security updates until End of 2020 (-> https://www.qnap.com/en/product/eol.php)
Migrating the "legacy" disks to most newer NAS models should be a temporary solution only, because you wont' be able to get the advantages of the logical volume system, snapshots, ...
If you like, I can look into a "user friendly" way to disable SMB 1.0 on these legacy NAS models (so it will certainly no longer used).

Re: Windows 10 (1803) cannot see TS-212 (4.3.3.0868)
Thanks schumaku, but I don;t want to put you to any bother. I was thinking to buy a new enclosure, I am happy with performance but it can always be improved. The 2 disks are quite new and have had little use as in a cupboard for half their life off.I bought 2xWestern Digital Red 3TB. If I bought a new enclosure, is the 251P2 the best for a 2 disk use? I only need basic NAS and iTunes server. Could I take out the 2 disks from the old and place in the new enclosure and let the system reformat and start as new?
thx

Re: Windows 10 (1803) cannot see TS-212 (4.3.3.0868)
Evening, I recently bought a SS-439 (4.2.6) to have a play and see if QNAP NAS kits are for me before delving into something newer. Fairly technical but struggling with getting the Windows shares working.
Similar to above, can use the web gui, FTP, plex etc but cannot map a drive or see it in network explorer. Smells like SMB1 right? My Win10 desktop has been configured to access SMB1 shares though. My version of QNAP software will not let me specify the SMB version via the GUI thought. Infuriatingly I cannot SSH or Telnet in. I try using Admin and my Web GUI pwd to no avail. Tried it form two machines and still getting bad pwd, the web UI highlights the bad pwds too. I have definitely enabled SSH access.
Next port of call was to pull one of the network cables in case it was getting confused about which NIC to broadcast on, new to this and assumed it was loadbalancing them.
Edit: Managed to SSH in, changed my password to something simpler!
Thanks in advance.
