No problem, we'll go slowly.
I'll give you the commands to run.
Some basics: all commands and filenames in Linux are case-sensitive, so type them exactly as you see them. Use copypaste if you can. If you're familiar with DOS and the like, you'll understand the importance of using the correct syntax. Linux makes that a little more-so as it won't let you get away with using the wrong character-case.
e.g. In Linux, it's possible to have all these files in the same directory:
- readme.txt
- README.TXT
- ReadMe.txt
- readme.TXT
Most of the time, commands and filenames are in lower-case, so use that unless you know you should be using uppercase.
No, I mean there's already a text editor you can use, but you'll need to install it. My previous post explains how.
This isn't needed, and would only make things more complicated.
I sure hope you don't mean you're copying data from one location in your NAS to another location in the same NAS. Because, that's not a backup.
Great! Based on that, I'll assume you've been able to successfully SSH into your NAS, and you've installed the Text Editor package inside your QTS App Center. Nice work!
The next thing to do is get a list of your existing share paths. Let's extract them directly from [/etc/config/smb.conf].
Please SSH into your NAS as the 'admin' user and run the following command:
Code: Select all
grep '^\[\|^path =\|^shadow:basedir =\|^shadow:snapdir =' /etc/config/smb.conf
If you get any errors, or you're unsure what you should be seeing, take a screenshot and post it here. The most common problem people have is syntax. To ensure you have it right, I need to see exactly what you've typed, and exactly what the result was.
