Unable to mount share from Windows 10 after upgrade to QTS 4.5.1.1495

Post by CharlieD111 »

I recently upgraded a TS653D from QTS 4.4.3.1354 to 4.5.1.1495 and this trashed SMB access from two differnt Windows 10 PCs. Downgrading QTS back fixed it but I would like to fix this for the longer term. PCs on Windows 10 Pro 2004 latest updates.

The problem

Attempt to mount mapped drive from win explorer gave "…mapped network drive could not be created .. A device attached to the system is not functioning"
Attempt to browse NAS from explorer gave cannot access error
Attempt to mount NAS from command line "net use …" gives "System error 67"

I Tried the following suggestions from this forum :
- Ping NAS - replies ok
- Access as above via ip address or name - didn’t work
- Restart SMB
- Enable SMB 1 in windows 10
- With/without NAS credentials in Win Credential Manager
- smb2status - max protocol smb3 enabled - running 2.1
- smb3enable run - samba version 4.10.18
- Check samba processes running using ps-ef | grep mdb
- cat /var/log/log.smbd no errors
- Ensured username/pwd same on PC and NAS
- Enable QNAP network services > Win/Mac/NFS > Advanced > master browser
- Check netbios ps -ef | htrp nmbd running
- Enable WINS server on NAS
- Check security blocking on QNAP (PC not blocked by NAS)
- Turn off ipv6
- SAMBA bonjour enable
- Reapplied new firmware
- Tried QTS 4.5.1.1540 and 4.5.2.1566
All to no avail. Downgraded back to 4.4.3.1354 and it worked again.

My concern is that I want to track security updates and features. Any ideas on how to keep it working under more recent firmware ?

As this is such a fundamental feature I am also wondering if these days I am going to need a second QNAP of similar type just to test firmware updates or have I been unlucky. Any experiences appreciated. My TS-459 Pro worked for 10 years of updates fine.

Thanks for reading this and any input you provide.

Hello,
Similar issue. We migrated the disks from a QNAP TS-231P2 to a QNAP TS-231P3 (because the 1st one did not power on).
All data and config is OK except that all Windows Share say "A device attached to the system is not functioning".

We have the 4.5.1.1495 QTS firmware.
