Can you confirm Local Master Browser is enabled on the NAS?

Yes, it is on and that doesn't affect it.

@danielhw @Toxic17 The impression I am getting here is that perhaps this whole thing doesnt affect fresh setups. A friend of mine purchased a brand new qnap, used the finder tool to upgrade to 4.5.3 and then proceeded to setup his file shares. No problems connecting to it whatsover. I brought my laptop over to his and also connected successfully. So I still do not believe that the issue is related to Windows. Sth definitely changed in the latest series of QNAP firmware and it is having adverse effects on SMB shares setup in the past. Pls let me know if QNAP comes back to you with a workable solution @danielhw. I would really like to try do a fresh setup myself but I have to work and really don't have time for that so I will stick with 4.4.3 for the time being.

@gtao725 Yes that's what I've been thinking, that it's definitely not Windows end. Especially because you can't explain 2 different hardware types suddenly having a problem coincidentally upon QNAP upgrade, & meanwhile 1 profile on one of the two machines is still fine the whole time while the adult/admin profile stops.

Another 3 things that says not Windows is remember I can't log into the NAS by web browser, & second is that after 4.5.2 one network worked but not the other (previously both machines could access it from my internal LAN router or my ISP modem's built in router), & 3rd is Android now (post 4.5.3) can't access it on the internal LAN router that Windows can't.

I'll try to get the help ticket tomorrow.

I'm also experiencing this problem. Has there been any workarounds or solutions identified?

I've isolated this problem down to something within the QNAP's networking. I found a reddit post where they describe a new virtual interface that had appeared after the update - https://www.reddit.com/r/qnap/comments/ ... re_update/
This indicates QNAP made some networking change in this firmware.

Macs have been able to connect without issue; the problem is exclusively on Windows (only Win10).

QNAP does handle Windows and MAC networking differently which explains why the problem is isolated to one client OS.

There are times where I can restore network connectivity by changing networking settings - creating a new bond, deleting the bond. This confirms by restarting the network stack, it restores connectivity indicating a the problem is cause by the networking service.

Thank you for the update. So I'm hoping QNAP is working on it and we'll get a patch soon.

Does this problem continue when using the latest firmware - QTS 4.5.3.1670 Build 20210515?

The problem seemed to be partially fixed, in that I could access it through my modem on Windows 10, and that when I hooked it back up to the router I am now able to access it through that IP address on my Android devices. However, it no longer works through Windows 10. So it is like the partially fixed it.

just curious, I'm assuming your NAS is in Workgroup mode and not a domain, so does your Windows machine have the same Workgroup name as the NAS?

Definitely not. Though it's operated since August 2017 just fine under the same discovery by QFinder until the early April update. Also as a reminder, it does work on my son's kid profile on the Windows 10 Surface Pro, yet not the adult/admin privilege accounts on the same machine.

I also want to mention that qvpn is no longer functional. It hangs on the trying to connect screen.
