Understood. Thank you for the suggestion, I will try this option and report back my experience. Much appreciated Trexx!
UPDATE: Now I remember why I elected to go with VR Station vs. Linux Station. It appears by default it encrypts the partitions therefore causing some bottlenecks and issues when trying to isntall/configure PIA VPN client. I will try again with 14.04. There are ways to get around this, but it's a pain in the rear end to go through all the steps. :/. This version is alot more user friendly. Not as "choppy" vs. going through VR Station.

Hmmmm I am not sure about the encryption in LS. I guess I haven't checked, but I don't THINK it does, but again am not sure.
What is driving the need for Ubuntu? The PIA VPN client?

Media server: Transmission, BT client, Kodi, etc. Just testing the waters how this all incorporates via Ubuntu vs. my current setup with Plex and Windows.

Re: Ubuntu VM on Virtualization Station extremely slow
Well pretty much all the things you listed above have QNAP Apps (qpkg's ) available for them, either from QNAP or the community.
That is generally going to be your best option in terms of lowest overhead, performance, etc.
The one potential limitation the QNAP will have that you may not have on your current PC is if you need Plex real-time transcoding capabilities. Currently Plex doesn't support HW based transcoding (leveraging CPU capabilities) for QNAP. So if your Plex clients (TV, tablets, etc.) can all DirectPlay your media (no transcoding) you will be fine using it as your Plex server as well.
If not, then you could have plex transcode the file ahead of time for you if need be.
