QNAP Virtualization performance

Hi,

I am planning to upgrade my old ts-219 to TS-451 with 8GB memory. Currently, I had my own virtualization machine with 64GB memory built on top of Windows 2012r2 Hyper-V. Most of time, I played around windows server, like Windows Server 2012R2, 2016, SQL Server and SharePoint 2013/2016 servers. For those Hyper-v VMs, I need to allocate 16 GB to SharePoint and SQL server which is for testing purpose, and 4GB for my DC. When I look at TS-451 spec, it only support 8GB as the max memory. I am just wondering if NAS virtualization just need less memory than hyper-v. Is that possible to have multiple Windows Server Vms hosted under TS-451? what's about the performance? Any chances I can use a NAS to host at least 4 Windows VM?

I really don't like your chances.
The TS-451 has only a dual core Celeron. Yikes!!
Only two VM's are recommended to run on the NAS. Please see:

The servers you want to run are hard on I/O, so they would perform very poorly.

I wouldn't recommend it.

thanks for your recommendation. I am just curious what kind of VMs with what OS QNAP virtualization are commended? The max 8GB is really limited when you are thinking about hosting VM. if the people like to have VM on their NAS, what QNAP model is normally recommended?

If you want to run an OS like Windows, then yes - it's quite limited. But those NAS specs are quite different to your 64GB VM server.

Think small. 8GB on a low-spec NAS will allow you to run one or two small Windows VMs that are not running time-sensitive operations.
