Store Hyper-V VMs on SMB3 share

Hi,

I have a QNAP TS-470Pro with 2x1Gbps NICs. We want to run Hyper-V Virtual Machines via SMB3 fileshares on the NAS.
We have created the following structure: \\NAS\SMB3\Share1.
For the security rights I have added the Hyper-V Administrators, Hyper-V computer accounts, SYSTEM account to the share1. All with R/W permissions.

When I try to create a VM I get an error with access is denied. What else do I need to configure?
We also experience slow performance. What is the optimal NIC configuration I should pick, LACP?
Where can i check that ODX is enabled?

According to Microsoft, you should only need to grant the Hyper-V computer accounts permissions to the share.
Reference: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/libr ... 34187.aspx
"An Active Directory infrastructure is required, so you can grant permissions to the computer account of the Hyper-V hosts."
I suggest through reading through the whole article before you do anything just to make sure nothing stands out.

Assuming you have AD and have added the computer accounts correctly to the share, you may need to enable constrained delegation. Follow the instructions in the "Using constrained delegation" section of the document to see if that helps. If it doesn't be sure to undo the changes to return your configuration back to the default.

Hi, just wondering if you got SMB 3.0 working on a QNAP share to support virtual machines from hyper-v 2012?

cheers

We try to do the same but get a error. Remote SMB share does not support resiliency.
SMB3.0 is enabeled on the nas.

SAMBA 4's support is SMB 3.0 is incomplete. It lacks some features (resiliency being one) that Hyper-V requires to use as a storage host.

I have the same problem on my TS-659 Pro+

Anyone know if this will be supported in the future?

Any further update on this from anyone out there? It would be great to use my QNAP for SMB3 shares instead or setting up iSCSI.
