Join nas to AD Domain as use as FILE SERVER, Questions.

Post by jfk105 »

Hello, I have some question about join a nas to Windows AD (Windows 2003 Server).
The situation at moment:

I have a Virtual machine with Windows 2003 Srv OS : this server is the PDC and manages Ad users, groups, policies. This is the company file server (More it’s dns and dhcp server too).

Now because space on this vm datastore is going to fill all hard disks I think to get a new nas (TS-253-A) with 2 x 4Tb Drives to make a RAID 1 Volume and use it as NEW FILE SERVER.

Then I’d like to join the nas to the domain and use it as NEW FILE SERVER making a share with all copies from former share(Win2003 Srv) so the users will find their folders and files on the nas.
The Win Srv 2003 keep continue to run as PDC, DNS, DHCP.
These are my questions:
1) Can I join nas (qts 4.3.3) on Windows Server 2003 Domain with no problems? (guide says YES but I need confirmation, please)
2) All domain users (and their groups) will come automatically into nas?
3) If I have to add some new users in the domain, how the nas add same users too?
4) Are there a max users or not?

Thanks in advance, J
