Changing QNAP file / folder ownership from Windows

Post by Godrick »

I have changed the domain to which my QNAP TVS-632T / 4.3.3 is attached, and would like to update the ownership of some files / folders. (I have the full "Advanced" file sharing permissions and Windows ACLs switched on.)

When I try to change the permissions from Windows Explorer (which is what the QNAP interface tells me to do) I cannot change ownership of the files, even with Windows Explorer | Properties and advanced security options (something is unreadable).

I don't know whether it makes any difference that the current owner of the files (now just a number) no longer exists because of the domain change.

Can anyone point me to a suitable recipe?

In case anyone else comes across this issue, the answer is that you have to map your drive to a local device (eg, Z:) using NASNAME\admin credentials, and then you can fiddle with permissions to your heart's content...
