Cannot add folders to Media management

Post by edbuller »

  • Model name Ts-419 PII
  • Firmware version and Build Number 4.2.0 201601119
  • Operation System (OS) ARM
  • OS Language ENg
  • Number of HDDs 3
  • HDD model 2 *WD Red 1.8gb, 1 seagate 1.8 st2000
  • HDD capacity 2gb
  • RAID configuration raid 5 3.58gb 62% used
  • Services enabled, e.g. Download Station, DDNS, FTP, NFS file station photo music media lib web serverpptp ssh
  • External devices, e.g. USB printer, e-SATA drive external USB Esata backup caddy
  • NAS connection speed/ MTU igb 1500 mtu

    Struggling to get to get Music station functioning properly even from pc on home network (never mind qmusic over the WEB which is my objective)
    symptoms are that no songs are displaying but I do see album covers and artists
    I cannot play any of these so I figure the media library is corrupt and needs rebuilding

    my music is not in the multimedia path but in a standalone 'Music' Folder
    music stored in this structure as flacs and mp3's
    Music folder
    Artist => Rolling Stones
    Album => Sticky Fingers

    So I go to Media Management advanced and try to add the folders I want
    I am unable to add the folders or rather when I do they disappear after I save
    I followed some forum advice to disable and rebuild etc but nothing
    I do not want to nest everything under the QNAP Multimedia structure

    So my question is how do I get my music folders into the multimedia library so they get indexed properly and appear in music station as songs that I can play
    I have checked permissions and they all have at least 774 so minimum of read to anyuser
    TWONKY sees and plays videos music just fine so its not permissions

    I cannot be sure about this but I think these issues have only appeared since going to 4.2 as my library was fine before hand when I built it under 4.0
    has something broken in media management or am I missing something
    I see others have been having problems with this specific issue but no steps I can see have resolved it for me
    can I go in via ssh and manually add the music folder as a last resort - Where??

    Grateful for any advice

if you can use SSH, try the following commands

/etc/init.d/mariadb.sh restart
/etc/init.d/QMediaService.sh restart

then try adding the folder again via the UI

Thanks
worked well, able to add all my folders
interesting that even after several reboots this had not worked and needed the manual commands

Spoke to soon
The folders stuck in the UI for 30 seconds and went back in to add others, - nothing there
Under Multimedia management, media library tab it still thinks ive got thousands of music video and photo files (I assume from a previous indexing before upgrade to 4.2)
repeated manual stop and start as above but same problem.

Same problem here!
Cannot add folder to media lib - tried restart and deactivate/reactivate, doesn't help.
See high CPU usage of mysqld
Is there a way to reset the media lib completely?

Last night, I upgraded my TS-219P II from 4.2.0 (2016-01-01) to 4.2.2 (2016-12-14) and installed and enabled the "Media Streaming Addon".

This morning, I experienced exactly the same behaviour as described above: I was able to add "/Public/Music" as a media folder but within seconds, it disappeared from the list of folders.

However, after a reboot, I found that the folder was listed and the indexing was proceeding.

Perhaps this problem has been partially fixed by the most recent version of 4.2.2?

OK, update:
The media-Server from Qnap is a crapp with large media collection (> 1TB)!
It is very slow and crashes everytime and then the media-folders disapear and it is not possible to add them again.

=> Solution: Twonky-MediaServer

@Qnap: if I can help with debugging of your Media-Server, let me know! At the Moment it is not a seriously MediaServer, sorry!!

I had similar problem, that I couldn't change any setting in Multimedia Management. I managed to solve the problem by disabling and enabling the DLNA media server. After disabling the DLNA just for a second, the settings of Multimedia Management were ok again, and I could add new media folders.

TS-231 with 4.2.2 (2016/12/14) firmware. My media library is something like 22000 files, ~350 GB.
