I just installed a QNAP NAS and copied over 1500 videos to it
I have two major issues.
1. Video station does not play MKV files
when i attempt to play a mkv file it "starts" then shows a black screen with red letters "This video does not support online playback or does not exist"
I have installed the 4.2.3.D codexpack
2. The Video station shows 1500 icons but they are not in any order. Show episodes are all intermixed with movies and its not usable. all i want is a simple folder display where i can select and drill down like a file manager.
Would it be easier to use a network connection on the television and itsbrowser to access the files via "file station" ? as that ap is not available it appears threw the direct hdmi
mkv files not playing

Different NAS devices have different media transcoding and playback capabilities. These are categorized into two groups below. Use File Station, Photo Station, Video Station, or a DLNA media server to stream your videos to networked media players from your NAS.
