Organizing Multimedia

I am frustrated by Timeline organization of multimedia. Unfortunately as I organize home videos and load them into my server, some videos have wrong dating, either due to editing on software or old cameras where no one bothered to set the date. I was hoping to manually change things in properties, but when I open the videos in Filestation, that is not an option.

I searched forums for multimedia organization tips, but didn't find much helpful. Maybe my search terms were bad...it seems someone would have great advice here. Anyone with a well organized system have advice?

I have videos and pics in folders with Year-Month-Day as the first part of the folder name. Am I going to have to rename each file that way, or will that even help? Is there some Preferences setting that makes this easier?
