How would you setup automatic file move/copy from folder A to B?

Post by perkins » Thu Jul 25, 2019 3:19 pm

Hi,

Since the Photos Station doesn´t support Quicktime (.MOV) playback (through a web browser at least), I have a need to transcode files to mp4 format.

I can setup a folder to do the conversion. I´ll upload video files from iPhone to this folder and QNAP will do transcoding from MOV to MP4 in their original resolution. This was the simple part.

But now comes the part that I don´t know how to do it. I would like QNAP automatically to move (or copy) the transcoded MP4 files to archive where I keep the video files from the phones.

I tried using backup function, but it will also copy folders which is not wanted. I would like only copy the transcoded mp4 files.

Would you have instruction/guide how to setup automatic file move/copy from folder A to folder B inside a QNAP?

Thank you for your help!

best way I guess is setup a cron job to move/copy the files you want from one to the other. this can be scheduled to whatever you want. every minute, every 5 minutes, every day, or whatever.

check the wiki out regarding crontab.

https://wiki.qnap.com/wiki/Add_items_to_crontab

create a linux script that either copies (cp command) or moves (mv command) and then call this script from the crontab entry.

Or setup Hybrid Sync Backup to sync files from one folder to another.

Thank you for your reply. I tried using the Hybrid Sync Backup to copy the folder A files to folder B location. Problem was that it will create folder to folder B location. I doesn´t just copy the files.

The other option seems to require mad linux skills. I need to look into this, but most likely it will be beyond my linux skills.
