RSYNC QNAP -> FreeNAS

Post by nogi »

I have a TS439Pro and a FreeNAS server. I want to replicate my QNAP data to the FreeNAS on a daily basis. The share on the freenas is like /mnt/share1. But when I setup rysnc it keeps failing, complains that the path was not found. The connection seems to be working as when I test I get success message.

On FreeNAS
Create an user with admin rights or atleast read/write to your /mnt/share1 folder
Create an rsync module in services --> rsync --> modules. Ex "Share1" "/mnt/share1. Enable module listing. Access mode = Read write.

On Qnap
Create an rsync jobb and point to the ip of your freenas server.
Use the user created or with read / write permissions.
Select the source folder on your Qnap
Enter the module name from your freenas box as destination. Ex "/Share1" Note: I dont have module listing when connecting Qnap --> FreeNAS. However it should work anyway.
Now start the rsync jobb it should work without any problem.

Im doing rsync from my qnap to 2 freenas boxes working without any problem. Using Freenas 0.7. Have not tried with the new 0.8 version do.
Cheers.

Thanks, that worked perfectly. Only one issue though, it's not deleting deleted folders on the destination (FreeNAS). Deletes the files in those folders with no issue, just doesn't remove the folder. :?:

Thanks for this! It helped so much. Just wanted to add something that I had happen in my setup using Qnap HBS 3 to a TrueNAS installation.

Make sure to click the "Apply Destination Permissions" box in the QNAP one way sync options. When I didn't have that clicked, the sync would happen and show files transferred, but on my TrueNAS box it just created directories but didn't copy files over. I'm assuming RSync was trying to use users in the QNAP box that didn't exist in TrueNAS so the files weren't kept. After I clicked the option, the files copied over no problem.
