ts-659 hbs rsync issue

This appears to have solved my issues backing up a TVS-671 to a TVs-659 as well, using HBS or Hybrid Backup and Sync, receiving a "connection reset by peer" error. Wish QNAP would fix the firmware on device such as the 659, which is older but still perfectly capable, to work better.

It's especially annoying that backing up works with any third party solution, but QNAP's own software fails.

i'm trying to backup one way rtrr from ts-877 to a ts-659 pro II. it worked twice for 2 jobs, but one job with a 1-3 tb size got reset around 15-20% and doesn't complete. Then i found this.

Any solution? i want to use HBS to run my backup jobs. If that is not possible, is there an alternative app that can do a rsync between these 2 nas :'

Re: ts-659 hbs rsync issue

just to update, i have a ticket on this, qnap is looking into it. hopefully there is a solution. so if u have a similar issue to this, u can use my ticket as a referal to this case if u want

i'm not sure if this affects other models, but mine is a ts-659 pro II. I see in the forum that the 659 series gets mentioned having this issue with HBS triggering a "connection reset peer" during the rsync/rtrr which basically causes the rsync to cancel and restart.... (essentially you can never ever complete your rsync job because of this).

i think it's a matter that they need to resolve a bug in HBS, so hopefully the devs manage to come out with a fix :(

anyone know whether this commandline fix needs to be done from the source nas (ts-877), or on the destination nas (ts-659 pro II) ?

helpdesk is assisting with the issue.

backup seems to work but there is some odd issue that hbs says there is some error, but when i checked the destination nas seems the data was backed up. i only checked the file size so i'm not 100% certain but looks alrite to me.

just worried about the error message pop up, any corruption? if not why is it displaying that message? still working things out.

good part is that now the backup can go all the way to 100% without the rsync job quiting half way due to peer reset issue.

spoke too soon. i ran a 2nd job for a different share, and this time it did have that peer reset bug.

so maybe helpdesk did something for the 1st job that sort of worked, but did not do anything for this 2nd job i did. I donno what helpdesk was doing on their side to fix this.

just an update on this issue.

RTRR has the problem. Seems that RSYNC doesn't.

so i changed my job from using RTRR to using RSYNC and it completes.

this issue for using rtrr only occurs when trying to use HBS (latest) from ts-877 to an EOL HBS that can't be updated on a ts-659 Pro II. But i imagine this issue is happening to other models in a similar situation where u can't update to a newer HBS due to EOL status.

So if u are in a similar situation and RTRR job results in a peer connection reset, try to do RSYNC instead, it worked for me.

helpdesk was not helpful, i had to figure this out myself.
