NAS to NAS works one way, not the other

Hi,

Normally we replicate from NAS A to NAS B using a Replication Job. Has worked perfect for many months on a daily basis.

Due to reconfiguration and adding discs, I need a one-time replication from NAS B to NAS A, but I cannot get this to work. Creating a Replication Job from NAS B using the ip-address for NAS A as target, port 873, I get the error: "Invalid port number or the service is disabled. Please check your server settings ..." I have enabled Rsync on NAS A (was of course already enabled on NAS B).

The servers are on the same subnet.

Any good ideas will be much appreciated.

Using HBS or Backup Station? If HBS Backup Server has RSYNC ticked on 873?
So on same LAN, no VPN or port forwarding needed?

I try to keep both NAS'es f/w-updated all the time (4.3.4.0597 (Build 20180528)). BTW, both NAS'es are completely identical.

Yes, it is the very same LAN, so no need for VPN og port forwarding, I think.

The exact error-message is: "Invalid port number or the service is disabled. Please check your server settings. Please check your network settings, account and password, default gateway, and whether the destination host is behind a firewall".

System Default g/w is Adapter 2 (as is should be in my case), with fall back to Adapter 3 (also connected). On the other NAS it is 1 and 4, the connected ones. Seems to fit ...

I wonder if there is a log someplace on the server ...

I would say time to stop using Backup Station. Try HBS and see what happens, the Backup server tab shows the ports.

I have just installed HBS - but I get exactly the same error using One-way Sync - Sync Local to Remote using Rsync

Try changing the rsync port on the destination server (remember to change port when selecting remote connection).

In SSH/putty see what happens on the command line.
rsync -av /source/directory/or/file /destination/directory/or/file

No worries, got there in the end!

Rsync is great for slow (WAN) connections but for LAN-LAN-connections, I would normally use RTRR. RTRR have more features and better performance for large file transfers.
