UPS Power loss >> need more aggressive shutdown

Post by CarbonPepper »

My QNAP seems to only have one shutdown routine.

It often stalls waiting for some poorly coded app to finish what it's doing.

And it seems to use this same shutdown routine even if there is a UPS power loss event. I would prefer a power loss event to result in a more aggressive shutdown routine, I'd rather the QNAP put a bullet in the back of the head of any apps with a kill -9 rather than risk data loss with a sudden power outage.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Personally, I got a UPS big enough to handle my system and have 30min on it. I have it shutdown after 5min of power loss. That gives it the time it needs. I like the Cyberpower CP1500PFCLCD. Even the less expensive CP1350PFCLCD would handle your unit easily. Its about a $200 bill. A little more money, and sine-wave for cleaner power. I have one of thse on my rack unit. Works great. USB connected to control things nicely.
