Open a ticket with QNAP. This is a community forum and nothing we can do.
Use the forum search feature before posting.

Use RAID and external backups. RAID will protect you from disk failure, keep your system running, and data accessible while the disk is replaced, and the RAID rebuilt. Backups will allow you to recover data that is lost or corrupted, or from system failure. One does not replace the other.

in the abscense of actual versioning support, several snapshot per day/week would be better than nothing and only if your data actually changed, will it take space (vs. full backups)

Ok thank you!
So,now,i am creating snapshot but i have a little problem.
Actually i’m in RAID 1,with only 1 storage pool for the entire available space (with my data all in here)

So, I have no more space available to create another storage pool to configure snapshot and write them in it.

-1) Is it possible to reduce the space of my actual “storage pool 1” to create “storage pool 2” to use it for snapshot?

-2)Either,alternatively,can i write snapshot in the same storage pool 1 or it could be dangerous?

PS TYVM and sorry for my bad english,i wish you’ll undestand me!Image

here is a guide
https://www.qnap.com/hu-hu/how-to/tutor ... -qts-4-3-4

not sure if there is a way now to convert thick to thin (or was it the other way around?) but if you would manage to convert to a a thin volume, you could reclaim unused space on the pool and then have space for snapshots

The alternative is to delete the volume recreate a smaller tick or thin volume and restore from backups

My problem is the storage pool (occupyng now the entire space of the disk),not the volume in it...

if the volume is smaller than the pool, you should have free space

Sure, but creating a snapshot, qts advises me that creating it in the same storage pool of the data,it cold be dangerous in case of problems.

To create another storage pool in the disk i need space, but actually the entire space is occupied by storage pool 1.

So,i don’t know if i can reduce space of storage pool 1 to create a storage pool 2 to allocate snapshots.

Example.
-2 hhd, 1tb each.
-configuration RAID 1
-storage pool 1 = 1 tb
...storage pool 2 —> no available space!

#possible solution?

reduce space for storage pool 1,so:
-storage pool 1=600 gb
-storage pool 2=400 gb

it says 246GB are available on the pool, so snapshots should work
