A big fat "SNAPSHOTS OFF" button

Post by pspilot »

I hope I didn't miss something, since I'm fairly new to the QNAP system. But all these 'snapshot issues' are quite enerving, if you don't need snapshots. Now my application(s) need no snapshots whatsoever and I think that is not so rare. For pure backup solutions, TimeMachine Servers etc. snapshots are just a waste of space. It would be great, if there'd be a systemwide, before-even-defining pools and volumes, everlasting "NO SNAPSHOTS" switch. In the moment you have to consider and configure too many parameters (in many confusing places when you are new to QTS), to kinda get rid of snapshots. And even if there's no space taken, the directories and services are still there wasting reasources. I don't get it, why snapshots are so 'unavoidable' for QNAP. Synology and especially Netgear both allow a much easier way to switch off snapshots completely.

Thanks for reading :),

Well, yeah, I had been reading that threat already by coincidence. But hey, since the web hardly forgets the request is now there, in one more place to be discovered :).

QNAP does not monitor these forums for requests:
