PHP 7

Post by crushdepth »

Why?
  • Security support for PHP 5.6 ends on 31 December 2018. It's about to become a security hazard. Active support ended on 19 January 2017.
  • PHP developers need to work in a mainstream version of the language (currently 7.2), particularly for new application development.
I'm not asking to go all bleeding edge here, just to stay in touch with a mainstream version of the language that still has official support from the whole PHP ecosystem.

I got fed up of QNAP willingness to update PHP to 7 years ago. ended up using Stephanes QApache which is Apache 2.4.33 + PHP 7.2.9 + PECL Extension for x64, arm-x41, arm64 units.

there is quite a lot of content to edit for your own needs but once setup it just works. when upgrading QApache, I always however stop the package, copy my edited httpd.conf, php.ini, and any other .conf files I personally use, then uninstall the olkd package, install the new package, stop qpkg, overwrite default conf files with my own, then start qpkg again. as long as the changes are small the conf files can just be reused.

I can only suggest you contact QNAP directly to request them to update PHP AND Apache here: https://helpdesk.qnap.com/index.php/Tickets/Submit as this forum is not monitored by QNAP staff any longer and your post falls on deaf ears.

you could also try this to if you dont want Apache updates too: viewtopic.php?f=320&t=142202

yep: Updated the Apache version to 2.4.39. - Updated the PHP version to 7.3.4.

I still really wish they had gone for the QPKG approach with these two applications. it would mean they could be upgraded without new firmware being published. Synology's apps are nearly ALL packages.
